CoolClimate Calculator API

The CoolClimate Calculator API (http://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/api) is now available for developers to create customized versions of the CoolClimate Calculator (http://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/calculator), CoolClimate Maps (http://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/maps) and related applications engaging households in low carbon solutions. It is the leading carbon footprint management tool, allowing households to calculate their complete carbon footprint (including transportation, energy, food, goods, services, water and waste), compare their results to similar households and created personalized climate action plans. The API already powers powerful tools such as Oroeco.com, ClimateCooler.com, CoolCampusChallenge.org and CAChallenge.org.

The tool's live interactive documentation is easy to use for quick development. Possible applications that have not yet been developed (or fully developed) include: 1) Visually display the carbon footprint of every location in the United States (zip codes, cities, counties, states), 2) display and compare electricity generation sources for hundreds of electric utilities by location across the United States, 3) calculate the carbon footprint of product categories at points of sale, 4) track carbon footprints of mobility choices (e.g., linking the Moves API and the CoolClimate API), 5) creating customized climate action plans for different locations, or population segments, 6) carbon footprint competitions or games.
